Drug Rehab
Many people feel like failures if they need to go to a drug rehab. Nothing can be further from the truth. If you are admitting you need help, whether it be for alcoholism or drug addiction, you are already a better and stronger person. When the time comes that you can no longer handle your addictions, take a friend or family member by the hand and enroll in a drug rehab. That is the first step in saving your life. Keep in mind though, this is only the beginning and there are more realizations to come.

Go to a drug rehab for your future, or you might as well not have one. If you can't do it for yourself, then do it for the ones that love you. Do it now! The longer you wait to cure your drug addiction, the harder it may become. Think about what you wanted as a child. Are you there now? Ask yourself where you went off track or if you are heading right to where you wanted to be. Then remember your friends and the drug interventions they have tried. Do it for your future, do it now!

Addiction Treatment
Addiction treatment can include but is not limited to methadone detox, OxyContin detox, or counseling. If you feel that you are in need of help, look into addiction treatment. There you can find the information you need to end your bad habit. You can also find out ways to perform drug intervention amongst family and friends.

There are many reasons why you should stop using, but you need to find out your own personal reason. When you go to addiction treatment there are many counselors there to help you find out what started your addiction. It is then up to you to stop the cycle.

You don't have to be a drug addict to seek addiction treatment. You could be on the outside looking in at a loved one. If you want to help them realize their drug or alcohol addiction, then addiction treatment is for you.

Addiction Counseling
Addiction counseling (individual and/or group) and other behavioral therapies are critical components of effective treatment for addiction. In therapy, patients address issues of motivation, build skills to resist drug use, replace drug-using activities with constructive and rewarding non-drug using activities, and improve problem-solving abilities. Addiction counseling also facilitates interpersonal relationships and the individual's ability to function in the family and community.

Addiction is a habit, meaning you tend to fall back into old addictive behaviors. This also means you could fall back into drug use, even after addiction counseling. The sooner you seek help, the greater your chances for a long-term recovery. If you're initially reluctant to approach a doctor, help lines or hot lines may be a good place to start to learn about treatment.

Because denial is nearly always a characteristic of addiction, people who are addicted to or who abuse drugs often won't seek medical treatment on their own. Family members, friends, or coworkers may need to persuade someone to undergo screening for drug addiction. Breaking a drug addiction may involve addiction counseling.

Meetings
Meetings can complement and extend the effects of professional drug addiction treatment. The most prominent meetings are those affiliated with Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, and Cocaine Anonymous. All of these programs are based on the 12-step model. There are other groups who provide meetings such as Smart Recovery and others not based on the 12 steps. Most drug addiction treatment programs encourage patients to participate in meetings during and after formal treatment.

Meetings are many times free of charge, self-governing, and self-supporting. Information regarding day, time, and locations of meetings held by 12-Step organizations can be found by calling a central group telephone number in the yellow pages under "Alcoholism" and "Drug Abuse and Addiction". Typically meetings are held one or more times a week, at the same location and at the same time. Meetings focus on members sharing with other members their experience, strength, and hope in terms of recovery from alcoholism and drug addiction.

Inpatient Drug Rehab
Inpatient Drug Rehab: When patients check into a drug/alcohol rehab or drug rehab facility and plan to live on the premises, they are undergoing inpatient drug addiction treatment. Inpatient drug rehab can take place in a variety of locations. Many people think of inpatient rehabs as hospitals or similar accommodations, however, this is not always the case. Inpatient drug rehab takes place in residential settings as well. In fact, the preferred treatment environment in a lot of inpatient situations would be one that was less restrictive than a hospital. Yet the rehab should also have supervision and structure, such as a residential inpatient drug rehab. These programs often offer supervised detoxification that may involve medication in a hospital setting or social detoxification (i.e. no medication) in a non-hospital setting.

Outpatient Drug Rehab
The ultimate goal of a outpatient drug rehab program is long-term abstinence from drugs and alcohol. This is achieved by educating and treating clients so that they may re-enter society and lead responsible, successful, drug and alcohol free lives by using the tools of recovery. It is important that an outpatient drug rehab recognize and fulfill each client’s needs by helping them attain a thorough understanding of themselves and the recovery process.

Outpatient drug rehab programs are designed for clients who do not require a more structured environment to maintain sobriety and who are not in acute withdrawal. Most include individualized treatment planning, educational and process groups several times per week, and individual counseling. Appropriate referrals are made to community-based self help groups, vocational agencies, and other necessary ancillary services. Outpatient drug rehab gives the individual an opportunity to interact with the real world environment while still benefiting from a peer-oriented, structured therapeutic program. Clients’ progress is assessed regularly by clinical staff to help determine the length of the program for each participant. Safe and supportive living in our sober living homes is highly recommended during the outpatient treatment process.

Alcohol Rehab
Most people do not look at alcoholism as an addiction which requires a rehab. They don't realize that over time the excessive consumption of alcohol creates a dependency. This addiction needs the help of professionals who help and monitor alcohol rehab.

There are several alcohol rehab centers that help with more than just drug addiction. They recognize alcoholism as what it is, dangerous. Alcoholism is a serious problem worldwide. In the United States, the wide availability of alcoholic beverages makes alcohol the most accessible drug and one that is in the most need of attention.

Questions and Answers

Q: My son is 18 years old and has admitted that he is using heroin and wants help. I am looking for advice on what to do. He started abusing alcohol when was 15. He started smoking marijuana when he was 16. He dropped out of school shortly after that and has slowly gone downhill since then. He has been in 1 out-patient program for two weeks and two 30 day in-patient treatment programs. The longest he has been sober in the past 2 years, was 2 weeks when he got out of the first 30 day program, after which he returned to drug using. He is in trouble with the law and has 2 pending court cases. He looks awful physically and emotionally. I am afraid if I don't get him the right help he's not going to make it. What should do? Q: My son has just confessed to me that he is addicted to oxycontin. He was smoking pot and drinking regularly for the past two years. I have found a detox center and a drug rehabilitation program for him as I am not going to under plsy the situation. My brother died of a heroin overdose in 1999 because he did not get into a treatment program. I asked him how he has been getting oxycontin and he says that he gets it from a number of doctors, he says it called "doctor shopping". Is that possible that a number of doctor would write prescriptions for such a powerful medication for an 18 year old boy?. Faye L. Des Moines, Iowa
