Drug Raid in Iowa Involves INSSumner, Iowa is a small quiet town in Northeast Iowa, but it's not immune to big city crime. Sumner, Iowa police and county authorities got some help from the INS making a big drug bust at a Sumner, Iowa home late last night. And even for the small town of Sumner, Iowa Police Chief Arlin Rieck says drugs aren't uncommon. He says, "Sumner's located between four different counties, and we're in the corner where everybody migrates through."
Sumner, Iowa's Mayor, Gary Walke agrees but says, "The illegal drugs are pretty common all over the country. We're just happy to have officers here to do all they can to work on the problem."
Police say they had a good reason for raiding the house and they weren't shocked at all by what they found. Chief Rieck says, "We did find marijuana and possibly some illegal entry with the people living at the residence."
Authorities say they've been tracking the drug flow through their town for quite some time, most of it coming from Fort Dodge,Iowa Mason City, Iowa and as far away as Minnesota. They say this is the first time the INS has been called to Sumner, Iowa to help in a drug investigation.
