Iowa Family Found Guilty of FraudDAVENPORT, Iowa -- A jury in Davenport, Iowa returned the verdict Tuesday in the trial of the Pizano family.
Members of the Bettendorf family were convicted of money laundering, conspiracy to distribute drugs, and bank and wire fraud. Celia Pizano, 62, and her children Jessica, 39, and Mathias, 37, were found guilty on 20 federal counts.
Iowa prosecutors said Mathias Pizano sold more than 10 pounds of cocaine and 220 pounds of marijuana between 1992 and 2002, and he, his mother and sister, used the money to buy houses, condominiums and cars. Officials also said they cheated several banks out of thousands of dollars.
Sentencing is set for Jan. 9.
A hearing to determine forfeitures in the case starts Wednesday.
